big feet are cute, but articulation is so much better:-) part of my goodwill haul the other day. "who needs a mic stand when you've got your sister as your background singer" just love the shot...*.*

Just A Quick Post

Image
Saw this So In Style doll at Big Lots in Mesa,AZ. She was the only one, but I had just picked up 4 dolls for $6 next store at the Goodwill store; so I had to leave her. Gotta learn to budget better there is some good stuff out there:-) Just wanted to give a ray of hope that the S.I.S is still out there and pretty as ever.

Look who's wearing LIV's wig...

Image
...and looking so cute:-)

And before I knew it...

I had 9 followers-YEA!!!!! Big welcome to Dana Cooper of philly doll collector, and Lisey de Oz of Caja de Kekas. Love both of your blogs...beautiful work. I hope I can get to that level some day. Thanks again- nyw *.*

Where are we going?

Image
"you look so cute in that outfit" "so do you, I love those white jeans, want me to tie those bows for you?" "sure, but do you know where we're going today?" "I heard the grandmother say we were gifts for the granddaughter" "oh no! how old is she? will she take good care of us? I hope she won't cut my hair..." "don't worry, from what I overheard it's the grandson you have to worry about" TO BE CONTINUED...*.*

$2 thrift store find

Image
Found Li Shang-love interest from the animated film MULAN - in the thrift store about a month ago for $2.  Disney.com has him in stock for around $15. I had been searching for an adult male to add to the "posse", so he is perfect. In great shape...all his fingers and toes and hair:-) that small knick on his shoulder if just a flesh wound and can be smoothed out easily w/an emery board. And these pictures have him leaning, he can stand alone even w/his boots on :-) made him high waisted black, "reptile" embossed pants. his hair in a traditional top knot.  and finally my coat has found a wearer. YEA!!! White shirt w/sash inspired by Ken Watanabe's character in the movie INCEPTION. my first attempt had some hand pleating that looked just awful, so keep it simple and it looks kinda good*.*

Love those flat feet:-)

Different pretty faces... same cute feet *o*

Interesting series on PBS

I totally forgot...

Image
...That the new G.I.JOE movie is coming out and so the 12 in "Joes" are back; I saw them in the TJMAXX out here for $14.99. There were only 4 different ones, but that's more than I've seen in years.   Oh I was so tempted, but between my two son's-who are 30 and 26 years old-they must have at least 50 of the original re-issue that came out in the 80's and 90's in storage in another state...w/all the gear and then some. So a better use of my meager resources may be to "strongly" encourage them to go get my ..".their"toys out of storage:-) Image from kaboodle.com Image from Hasbro.com

http://www.dolls-n-daggers.com/Dolls/Forum/index.php I'm so new to this and I'm sure everyone knows about this tutorial page, but if full of every kind of information etc. that someone just starting out can use to improve or expand their skill and knowledge base. I'm just taking it in a "nibble" at a time so I don't get overwhelmed. Us grandmas' gotta take it slow and easy - ENJOY *.*

Doll relocation program:-)

Image
I have been picking up random dolls for years just because they were cute for my oldest grand-daughter;here are just a few. Some familiar faces-they were in my storage  and she couldn't wait to get her hands on them. So what's a grandma to do, when her "mini-me" loves dolls too. A couple of the males are my grandson's that I had hopes for reclaiming. But  afternoon battles w/"BATMAN" OR "IRON MAN" have left them missing arms and/or legs :-) Today while the older ones were in school and the baby was enjoying her morning nap, grandma dug through the seemingly bottomless toy bins to relocate a few of my finds. My daughter recently did a "store/purge" when the new baby was on her way;so who knows where the others are. Hopefully stored and not purged-but that is why thrift stores are so much fun*.*

Looks good to me

New Follower:-)

Welcome Shasha!!!! sorry if I missed you. Great to have you.

I think i still had some "braid" spray in her hair. So her style is loose waves, and very shiny. I'm going to restyle it, but it works for these pictures. She and her twin, from a previous post, are both going to get hair cuts. These "moxie-girlz" come w/so much hair. One of them might end up w/ a pixie cut when i'm feeling brave.  Also I'm practicing w/ "real" make-up and pastels until I feel much more confident doing a repaint. But it works. Her cheeks and lips have the rosy  blush of youth and green eye shadow can make any girls day; plus it's easy to easy to wash off and try again.
Image
Trying a technique i saw on "youtube"...so dangerous for the unemployed:-) using foil , folded and shaped into sturdy rods. 2 things i love-cheap and reusable. Unlike pipe cleaners or chenille stems, as they are also known, the hair doesn't tangle as much for us beginners. boiling water isn't just for tea anymore*.* her hair came out so cute. she looks glamorous by the pool.

things must be pretty interesting outside this window:-)

makes me wish i knew how to make lederhosen :-) this gold eye shadow has got to go *.*

Today's thrift store finds

Image
$3.99 @ Goodwill nice faces, they are still wearing their "factory" rubber-bands in their hair. The clothes are worth more than $4:-) The one in pink pants has those cute mermaid barbie feet w/pink painted toes;and the blonde needs a little cleaning, paint on her foot-but all of her toes and arched feet-and a 3 piece outfit. really cute white jeans.
Image
I finally took a minute to give these a customary shower and shampoo.  These moxies have really thick hair. which makes their heads wobbly. They are slightly different in coloring and paint,  but in excellent condition. And since they have their original feet, they can stand alone ( which I'll demonstrate once they are redressed.) Just relaxing and enjoying a little peace and quite before I return to 24/7 grandma duty:-)  Have a happy...*.*

what could be lonelier than needle and thread waiting for a project to come along? *.*

New Profile picture

Since my new baby is almost a month old, my old baby's picture had to be retired:-( After all she's 5 1/2 years old now and doesn't look anything like that anymore. My new baby girl, Mia, will have her debut when she doesn't look like her picture any more:-)

Just moving things around

Image
While I'm waiting for my new grand baby to arrive ( any day now ), all of my supplies are packed away. So today my 5 year old grand daughter helped to make a project with only what we could find around the house. Paint. Tape. Box from ice cream sandwiches. A button and some stickers. Not bad for a first try. She loves it; and has proudly placed it her 'village' of store bought houses of different sizes. She said it's an ice cream shop; since the printed part of the is now on the inside.  So cute.:-)  Sorry no pics of the village-what little girl's room is clean when you need for it to be*.*

I just couldn't resist these:-)

Image
2 MOXIE girlz; $2.99 w/accessories and $1.99 in pj's  I already packed all of my other fashion projects to get ready for my big move; which as it turns out won't be as "big" as I thought. So I needed a thrift fix, and there they were-cute as could be-waiting for me. I'll pack them away for now, but it was $5 well spent. Hey it ain't crack or fast food:-) HAVE A GREAT SUMMER all of this and 2 pairs of shades. I think it's part of a boutique or salon set up-nice stuff both have the same face, and both have their feet, that never happens.

Did this a while ago...so busy w/work...life...ya know:-)

Correction

The blog mentioned below does have a lot of other works featuring the Artist Huxley King, I just focused on the paper dolls:-) Thanks.

Looking for inspiration

Image
http://www.huxleyking.com/huxlux-magnetic-paper-dolls/ I found these on a blog that appears to not have been active since 2009, but these are for magnetic paper-dolls. This image just really struck me for it's strength, and character in the faces and the poses. This artist hand drew this. So much talent. I like it so much, I don't even mind the "underwear"-they came a sheet of magnetic clothing according to the blogger. COOL. If I could learn to repaint/restyle fashion dolls like this, that would be awesome. We all must find our own style, for this diversity I am very thankful , since I am no artist; but there might just be room for my folksy style,w/ a bit of this type of flavor-flava:-) Thought I would share-Be happy*.*

Interesting find @ TUESDAY MORNING

Image
There were alot of DORA items and these BARBIE doll outfits from 2002 celebrating different cultures-I picked Egypt-, but it's not close enough to payday for a splurge:-) The TM close to me rarely has anything good, doll related or otherwise, so I'm glad I popped in on my way home from work. On Friday, I hope they still have an assortment of outfits-the one for Canada has a pink fur coat...but none of them came w/shoes.   LIV is too small for the outfit, but her head is too big for the crown. she is wearing her new wig-it's windy outside. these must have been marketed overseas, and this one was imported from Barcelona, Spain. The inside cover sheet is actually a book about Egypt, like a tour, guided by various nationalities of Barbie dolls. The packages were dusty so it's not too hard to believe that these may have been sitting in a warehouse somewhere for the last 10 years.
